Some aspect of Ancestry Library Edition (ALE) is updated virtually every day. A search done in the morning may not get the same results as that same search done in the evening. That’s why a good family history researcher should periodically run the same people searches at least every 3 to 6 months, just in case something new got posted.
Q: How do you find out what has been added, updated, or is in line to be compiled into ALE?
Answer #1: On the ALE home page, choose the HISTORICAL RECORDS folder, under MORE COLLECTIONS, see "list recent or all databases." Choose recent databases.
For example, as of 4:41 pm on January 4, 2011, here is a list of the databases updated or added on 1/3/2011:
* AJHS New York Hebrew Orphan Asylum Records, 1860-1934 - Updated
* Jews in Colonial America (AJHS Oppenheim Collection), 1650-1850
* AJHS WWI Jewish Servicemen Questionnaires, 1918-1921
* AJHS WWII Jewish Servicemen Cards, 1942-1947
* Australia Death Index, 1787-1985 - Updated
* Australia Birth Index, 1788-1922 - Updated
* Australia Marriage Index, 1788-1949 - Updated
Answer #2: On the ALE home page, choose the SEARCH folder.
Scroll down a bit, and look at the right hand column for the long box labeled “BROWSE RECORDS.” At the very end of that long "BROWSE RECORDS" box, you’ll see “recent website additions.” This is where the more detailed information about groups of records reside. It’s most useful when a person is interested in learning more about what groups of records are available to use.
ALE is a subscription database that Beaufort County Library pays for customers inside our facilities to use to search for their ancestors. You can only search ALE inside our buildings on our public computers. You cannot access ALE from home. You cannot get to ALE via WIFI inside some of our buildings. Ask at any of our BCL Reference Desks for assistance in navigating this very valuable resource.
