The purpose of the Beaufort District Collection is to acquire, preserve, maintain and make accessible a research collection of permanent value which records the history of the area of lowcountry South Carolina known as the old historic Beaufort District.
Our sister cultural heritage organization, the Beaufort County Historical Society, is hosting Dr. Brent Morris of USC-B on Thursday, January 16th at the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club. Dr. Morris will lecture on the life and times of William H. Brisbane, the most hated man of Beaufort District. The meeting begins at Noon. The lecture is free and open to the general public.
Heads up: at the BCHS's next meeting viz. March 20th, Dr. Amy Thompson McCandless will talk about the life and times of Angelina Grimke Weld and Sarah Grimke, ardent abolitionists whose ancestral plantation was in the far upper reaches of Beaufort District.
