BHM-BCL Announce New Partnership

The Library survey said “We want more Local History programs” but with only 2 people on staff to take care of the “stuff,” provide customer service in the Research Room and through e-mail, and our ongoing projects, etc. it seemed impossible to do more until ...the Beaufort History Museum (BHM) approached us with an idea earlier this summer … and after several meetings with the BHM Education Committee and with the Library Director’s and the County’s approval … [Drum roll please]
We have a NEW PARTNER (Happy, happy excitement) helping us present local history programs for Beaufort County residents living in the cities of Beaufort and Port Royal and nearby sea islands.

Beaufort County Library and the Beaufort History Museum are joining together to offer free programs open to the general public in the greater Beaufort regional area! On the schedule for September 2016:

  • A docent guided tour of exhibits covering "Beaufort—500 Years in a Capsule" on Tuesday, September 13th, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at the Museum in the Arsenal, 713 Craven Street, Beaufort. Jan O’Rourke, the Library’s Assistant Director for Planning and Community Engagement and Ashley and I will be there with bells on to celebrate the new partnership!
  • "Ribaut's Road" will be the first lecture in the new series. Beverly Eggert will share the adventures of Jean Ribaut, Rene Laudonniere, and Jacques LeMoyne as they make their journey from France to the New World in 1562 and again in 1564. The saga is complete with tales of Indian raids, mutiny, murder, starvation, kidnapping and political intrigue. This lecture will be held Thursday, September 29th from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm in the Beaufort Branch Meeting Room, 1st floor, 311 Scott Street, Beaufort.
