Civil War Photograph Contest

From the The History Channel Club e-newsletter for June 13, 2011 and the Civil War Trust:

Calling all photographers! Do you think your personal Civil War photos rival those of famed Civil War photographers Mathew Brady and Alexander Gardner? Then make sure to enter the Civil War Preservation Trust's 2011 Photo Contest, sponsored by HISTORY and the Center for Civil War Photography.

Contest categories include: Civil War 1861 (sites associated with the first year of the Civil War), Civil War Battlefields, People on Civil War Battlefields, Preservation Threats, Then & Now, and a specific category for submissions from high school students.

To enter, open a Flickr account, upload your photos, join the Civil War Trust Flickr group, and tag your photos. The deadline to enter is Aug. 21, and winners will be announced in September.

The photograph of Fort Beauregard on Bay Point at the lead of this entry is from the Library of Congress's Civil War holdings. It was taken by Timothy O'Sullivan in 1861. To see it more clearly and for the metadata regarding it, go to http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/cwp2003004675/PP/.
