Monthly Overview for December 2025

Because we're in the midst of the 5 weeks long holiday season, we only have one local history program scheduled for this month - and it just so
happens to be this Thursday. Rich Thomas will share his research into the activities of the Beaufort Militia during the American Revolution at Bluffton Branch on December 4th. (There's more about the specifics in the immediately preceding post).

Even in a slow month, the BDC has lots of behind-the-scenes "stuff" going on - but honestly, that "stuff" is usually only interesting to us, the archives and library science nerds who work behind-the-scenes. Thus I won't bore you with the ins-and-outs of daily or recurrent special collections and archival unit operations and management: shifting materials preparation and plan, the donation paperwork, the usage of archival materials reproduction permissions paperwork and decision making process, archival processing plans, materials selection, updates to posts on the BDCBCL: Lists, Links and Finding Aids blog, etc. By librarian and archivist codes of ethics, we cannot share information about specific rendering of customer services to individuals.

We three BDC staff will be rotating taking some time off over the holidays - and although 2 or more of us are not scheduled to be away at the same time except on the specified County and Library closed days, life happens. Thus it would be prudent to contact us to make sure that one or more of us is available to assist you before your arrival at the Research Room door: bdc@bcgov.net; 843-255-6468.

Also due to our scheduled leave, you will notice fewer BDC FB posts in December than usual.

Here on Connections, expect the recurring posts from Sydney about what's in the BDC's display case and a recap of the November FB posts from me plus the announcement of the 2026 "Materials Monday" theme. I remain undecided about if there will be other Connections posts later this month.
The holiday schedule is thus:

The Library system will be closed Wednesday, December 24 through Sunday, December 28 for the Christmas holidays.

The Library system will close at 5 PM on Wednesday, December 31 and will re-open on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the usual time per branch location.
