Hilton Head, SC: The
Archaeological Society of South Carolina, Hilton Head Chapter will host their next meeting at the
Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, March
20th at 1 PM
presenting Dr. Mary Socci speaking
on the Octagon Plantation House at Palmetto Bluff. All meetings are free and
open to the public.
Dr. Socci will discuss
18th Century Science and Architecture at a Lowcountry Plantation
through one of the owners during the Colonial era, William McKimmy, of what is
today Palmetto Bluff. Dr. Socci has been Palmetto Bluff’s archaeologist since
2004 after developing an enthusiasm for archaeology as an undergraduate student
at Princeton University. She received her master’s and doctorate at Yale. She
has worked on archaeological sites in Belize, Israel, New York and SC.
