ASSC, Hilton Head Chapter announces Spring Programs

Hilton Head, SC: The Archaeological Society of South Carolina, Hilton Head Chapter will host their next meeting at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, March 20^th at 1 PM presenting Dr. Mary Socci speaking on the Octagon Plantation House at Palmetto Bluff. All meetings are free and open to the public.

Dr. Socci will discuss 18^th Century Science and Architecture at a Lowcountry Plantation through one of the owners during the Colonial era, William McKimmy, of what is today Palmetto Bluff. Dr. Socci has been Palmetto Bluff’s archaeologist since 2004 after developing an enthusiasm for archaeology as an undergraduate student at Princeton University. She received her master’s and doctorate at Yale. She has worked on archaeological sites in Belize, Israel, New York and SC.

 May 5^th - 10 am field trip to the Savannah Railroad Museum car pooling from Coastal discovery Museum   at Historic Honey Horn     

 May 17^th - 7 PM meeting, Dr. Chester DePratter- Charlesfort and 450^th Anniversary of the Landing of   Jean   Ribaut
