If you are looking for something to entertain your holiday guests, come down to the Beaufort District Collection to see the South Carolina Historical Society's traveling exhibit "The Shaping of South Carolina." Learn all about SC's history of discussions and legal wrangles with neighboring colonies (and later) states.
The Beaufort District Collection is open Mon., Dec. 22nd and Tues., Dec. 23rd 10 am - Noon and 1 pm - 5pm. Like the rest of the Library system, we are closed Wed., Dec. 24th and Thurs., Dec. 25th for the Christmas holidays. Alas, the Beaufort District Collection is also closed on Fri., Dec. 26th due to lack of staff. We should resume regular hours, that is 10 am - 5 pm, on Monday, Dec. 29th, Tuesday, Dec. 30th, and Wednesday, Dec. 31st. The Library system, including the Beaufort District Collection, is closed Thurs., Jan. 1st.
In other words, "Shaping of South Carolina" is open when the BDC Research Room is open. (All units of the Library system is closed January 1, 2015). It's informative! It's educational! It's colorful! It has maps! It's free! ... and on January 15th, Dr. Larry Rowland talks about the "Treaty of Beaufort" in a free, but registration required, event at 4 pm amidst the exhibit. Space is limited. Contact gracec@bcgov.net or call 255-6468 to reserve your spot. Closed when full.
Please note: "Shaping of South Carolina" closes on Fri., Jan. 30th at 5 pm. Don't miss your chance to see it before it goes to Oconee County.
A very merry holiday season to all.
