Local History Programs in Mid-May

We have three local history programs this week to educate you and the final local history program of the fiscal year happens May 21st. When all is said, done, and accounted for, this has been the busiest fiscal year for programming and outreach that the BDC has ever done.

1) Learn about the other people on Planter with Robert Smalls that fateful night 163 years ago. This is your last chance this fiscal year to hear the tale.

2) The next day we go way back in time - even as far back as the dinosaurs - to learn about the fascinating soils of Beaufort County from Dr. Dirt (AKA Dr. Randy James).

3) Two days after that, the Beaufort County Historical Society and the BDC team up again to bring you the fascinating history of the USMC Recruit Depot at Parris Island with Stephen Price. (He came highly recommended by Dr. Stephen Wise - and I heard him speak about the Marines at Belleau Wood - so I am certain that all will enjoy this presentation.) Just be aware that this will also happen to be the Beaufort County Historical Society's annual meeting. Only members of the Society will be allowed to vote - if any vote is taken by the Society during the session.

4) An interview with newspaper columnist Annelore Harrell will close out our 2024-2025 Local History program series. We do so hope that you'll be able to join us on Wednesday, May 21 at 1 PM in the Beaufort Branch Library to hear Mrs. Harrell discuss her life and work.

Don't forget that the Memorial Day holiday is coming. All units of the Beaufort County Library will be closed on Monday, May 26th.
