Local History Programs: Red, White & Blue and Colorful Public Art

A new fiscal year is nigh - so it's almost time for the next BDC local history program. I love to re-use and supplement research, so I've decided to re-brand - and "color" - a talk that I originally prepared to present before a local women's group.  I've nipped and tucked in some sections while expanding it a tad in other sections. I was able to "color" the talk into the Summer Reading Program's theme "Color Our World" because both the United States and France have flags of red, white, and blue and Monroe and Lafayette had a true-blue friendship. I hope to see you at Beaufort Branch soon!

On Monday, July 28th, Cassandra Knoppel will provide a colorful review of past and present public art projects in Beaufort County, 2000 - 2025. From "Cows on Vacation" to the "Waterman's Wave Boot Trail," locals have seen quite an array of lines, shapes, colors and a variety of media along our pathways, in parks, and along the roads these past 25 years. Come reminisce with us as we remember all the fun we had with the "Big Pig Gig," "River of Art," "Surf and Turf," Art Benches, etc.

Both programs are free. Ages 12 to 112 are welcomed to attend - though in all honesty, I think the younger people will enjoy Moo-fort a whole lot more than a talk about the context of Lafayette's visit to our town 200 years ago.
