What to Expect in October 2025

October is always a very busy month for the BDC as we celebrate Archives Month, Archaeology Month, Family History Month, and over the course of the past several years, Gullah/Geechee Cultural Awareness Heritage Month. I think of the BDC's overall theme for October as 3 As and a G - for Archives, Archaeology, Ancestors and Gullah Culture. Expect to see posts about all those topics spread throughout the month on the BDC's Facebook page.

Three of our five local history programs this month relate to Archives and archaeology. We continue our series related to the American Revolution and the upcoming America 250 celebration. We return to the most popular topic of all, the Civil War, at the end of the month. You can read more about each of the programs listed below in the Connections post immediately prior to this one.

We have two extra extra special calendar events coming up for the BDC staff. The three of us are going on a field trip with the Beaufort County Historical Society to visit a few historic sites related to the "History on a Stick" local history program. Cassandra and I will visit with the members of the Beaufort Female Benevolent Society later in the month to talk about how to donate organizational archives to an institution.

The Library's semi-annual staff training day comes around again on October 13th. All units of the Library system will be closed on October 13.
