We start November off with an outreach event this morning. We'll be over in the Arsenal for the Beaufort History Museum's Encampment sharing information about the BDC and Library's Civil War related materials. Cassi and I will be on site from at least 10 AM until 2 PM. The Encampment is scheduled for 10 AM until 4 PM. There is no entrance fee to the encampment. Visit with re-enactors from the 79th New York Highlanders and participate in some fun activities for children and adults.
On Sunday, November 2, Sydney and I will be traveling back to 1898 at the Friends of Fort Fremont Fall Festival, 1 PM to 4 PM. The Festival is free so bring all your children and neighbors - and be sure to stop by our booth to say "hello." Sydney's done a lot of research selecting just the right newspaper articles from 1898 to share through our tri-fold display. BTW: It's rare for the BDC to have outreach activities back-to-back but when one is cooperating with others, sometimes such things have to happen. This outing also just so happens to be the 13th scheduled BDC outreach activity for 2025.
We have more "special activities," too.
- Cassi and I will be talking with a local group about preservation matters on November 5th.
- Don't forget the Friends of the Beaufort Library's huge Fall Book Sale at the Waterfront Park Pavilion, Nov. 7 - 9.
- Later in the month, we are looking forward to attending a meeting of one of our favorite local societies.
We host Neil Baxley for a talk about the American Revolution on November 18 at Beaufort Branch in cooperation with the Beaufort History Museum and the Beaufort County 250th Committee. He will provide an overview of military actions taken by the British, Loyalist and American forces in Beaufort District during the Revolutionary War. Learn about the battles of Port Royal, Coosawhatchie and Fort Balfour. Understand why the American Revolution is sometimes called "Beaufort District's First Civil War." This program is part of Season 9 of the joint Beaufort History Museum-Beaufort County Library series that is coordinated by the Beaufort District Collection.
November is Native American Heritage Month and Picture Book Month - both of which we will note in our social media posts.
We're entering the year end holiday season - and the Library is scheduled to close for at least 3 holidays in November. Just bear in mind that we are still in Hurricane season so there is still the possibility that we may have an inclement weather shutdown or restriction of service, too. But it is known that the Library system will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 for Veterans Day and on Thursday, November 27 and Friday November 28 for the Thanksgiving holidays.
