Mark your calendars for an exciting local history program: History of Hunting Island State Park with Ranger Rachel Dunn, scheduled for 2:00 PM on March 10th at the St. Helena Branch Library!
For the past three years, Rachel Dunn has been the Interpretive Ranger at Hunting Island State Park, where she studies the natural and historical resources of the Lowcountry to create programs for residents and visitors to Beaufort County. She has a degree in Plant Biology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, is a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation, and most recently became a Lowcountry Master Naturalist in 2023.
Ranger Dunn's program will explore the history of Hunting Island State Park. Hunting Island has been a place of interest for people living on the east coast for thousands of years. Today, Hunting Island is one of South Carolina's most popular state parks, but how did we get here? During this lecture, discover the Indigenous history of the island, how Hunting Island earned its name, how it became part of South Carolina's robust state park system, and more.
This is a joint program between the Beaufort District Collection and the Beaufort History Museum.
Doors open at 1:30 PM.
