Charlotte Forten Grimke was a woman of courage, commitment and character. She came as a teacher to the freedmen in the early days of the "Port Royal Experiment"during the Civil War, the only African-American teacher to do so. She later married the nephew of Angeline Grimke Weld and Sarah Grimke, Francis Grimke. The BDC has posted an online list of Library's resources about her, her life, and her family.
