You can read about some of our railroad related materials in another Connections post.

Upstairs here in the Research Room, we have a panel display on the history of the Clover Club, a women's literary and musical society established in 1891.

In 1902 the group decided to set up the Clover Club Circulating Library. They were instrumental in spearheading fund raising efforts for a bigger library beginning in 1911 and in managing the Beaufort Township Library from 1918 to 1964 when the Township Library evolved into the Beaufort County Library. They have been always championed the Library and reading.

For more than 100 years, members of the Clover Club have served on the Library's Board of Trustees, as library staff, and as volunteers. Most recently they helped fund the renovation of the Children's Programming Room. They celebrated their 125th anniversary by giving Library staff in this building a wonderful tea in the renovated Children's Programming Room on Monday, December 7th at 4 pm.

We selected some items from the Clover Club archives to put on display during the tea. We will keep the panels up in the Research Room through the end of December in case you'd like to drop by on Mondays Dec. 14, 21, 28 or Friday Dec. 18th to learn more about the legacy of this wonderful women's group. The Research Room is open on Mondays and most Fridays 10 am to 5 pm this month.

In the Research Room display case, we are highlighting some of our winter holidays rare and unique items. Come feast your eyes and your brain by visiting all three displays on Friday, December 18th between the hours of 1 pm and 5 pm. And given that the City of Beaufort is allowing free parking for 2 hours in the lot around the Library building, you can feast your eyes and park your car for up to 2 hours that day!

We remind you that the Library system will be closed Christmas Eve, December 24th; Christmas Day, December 25th; the day after Christmas, Saturday, December 26th; and Friday, January 1st, 2016. The Library system will close at 5 pm on New Year's Eve, Thurs., Dec. 31st.
