Monday, Tuesday and Friday will proceed as per usual. We'll be able to accept appointments and perhaps some walk-ins on those days. But Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday are "special."
On Wednesday, March 25, we host Dr. James Shinn's Local History Class from USCB. The group will be coming to our Research Room for a brief orientation, a quick behind-the-scenes tour and to learn about resources we have that can help them finish their heritage tourism related projects before the semester ends. As in all things BDC, our goal is to acquaint folks with our resources and to assure them that we will do what we can to guide them to the materials they need for their research projects.
We co-host the BDC's 4th American Revolution related program of this fiscal year on Thursday, this time with our friends in the Beaufort County Historical Society and the Beaufort County 250th committee.
In some ways, the American Revolution was Beaufort District's first civil war. Join Palmetto Bluff Archaeologist Katie Epps as she discusses the often-overlooked Loyalists of Beaufort District and their actions in the Revolutionary War.
Thursday, March 26, 2026 - "Loyal to the End: The Loyalists (or Tories) of Beaufort District" with Katie Epps | Co-sponsored by the Beaufort County Historical Society and the Beaufort County 250th Committee | Bluffton Branch Library, 120 Palmetto Way, 11 AM | First come; first seated. Doors open at 10:30 AM.
On Saturday, March 28, I'll return to Bluffton Branch to help with the inaugural Pen & Palmetto Writers' Event. Our committee of 7 has been working for almost a year planning the event. Join us for a day devoted to celebrating Beaufort County’s talented authors! Meet local creators as they showcase their work, connect with the community, and offer books for sale. Enjoy engaging panel discussions, hands-on writing sessions, one-on-one mentoring, and more—all in a welcoming, family-friendly setting. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover new voices, support local talent, and celebrate the stories that make Beaufort County unique.
The committee thinks that we've done a good job of organizing but the proof is in the pudding as they say. I guess that we'll know whether or not we've been successful by closing time that afternoon.
