BDC@ Programs, Sept. 10 - 14

Our BDC related programs to complement Civil War 150: Exploring the War and Its Meaning through the Words of Those Who Lived It begins in earnest.

This evening, join us for Civil War Photography with Dr. Robert Lisle. The free program begins at 6 pm in the Beaufort District Collection, 2nd floor, 311 Scott Street in downtown Beaufort. See authentic photography equipment.  Learn about the 300 men who paved the way to the explosion of photographic images during the late 19th to mid-20th centuries.

On Thursday, Sept. 12th at 6 pm, get the real story about Civil War medical treatments in the BDC@ Beaufort Branch program CIVIL WAR MEDICINE: WHAT THEY NEVER TOLD YOU  with Dave Smoot. The information that most Americans have concerning medicine during the Civil War has come from the movies, TV, novels and sources that are more hysterical than historical. This free program is based on medical practices and manuals of the period performed by and written by the people who were there.

The formal reception for Civil War 150 is Saturday, Sept. 14th at 2 pm.  We are very pleased to have 2013 Governor's Award for the Humanities recipient, Dr. Stephen Wise, as our speaker.  Space is very limited.

Please join us!  We'd love to see you at these - or any other - of the "One County Reads the Civil War" offerings.
