BDC @ Programs addition

BDC @ Programs bring local history programs to the branch libraries. The Library surveys tell us that we are on the right track. And, we're definitely trying to meet your expressed needs for more of the high quality local history programs that we are known to offer. In fact, we are beginning to experience the wonderful challenge of not having enough space to comfortably seat all the people who arrive for a local history program!

I just caution everyone to remember that:

1) The BDC has a staff of two and the Research Room must always be monitored while open;
2) We anticipate moving the "Research Room" very soon;
3) Being good stewards of the research collection is, has been, and will always be Priority #1 as long as I remain employed by Beaufort County Library as BDC manager; and
4) We have a major digital project, "300 for the 300th," to prepare and launch in 299 days!

Thus, I hope that you can understand why we simply cannot repeat each BDC sponsored local history program at every branch in the Beaufort County Library system. And, it is now possible, due to the wonderful response we are getting to our local history program offerings, that we may have to turn program attendees away when we reach room capacities as posted by the Fire Marshals.

So in spite of the above caveats, the BDC - through the kindness of a speaker - has added 2 programs to our Spring schedule at two BCL locations.

Bill McIntosh will share his book “Indian’s Revenge: Including a History of the Yamassee Indian War, 1715 -1728” at our Lobeco Branch, on Friday, April 16th from 4:00 – 5:00 pm and will do the same presentation at our Beaufort Branch on Thursday, May 6th from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. We won't be taking reservations but because the presentation in Beaufort Branch will be held in the Children's Programing Room with a capacity of 45, please arrive early. The room will open at 5:00 pm. The first 45 attendees get to stay for Indian's Revenge!

Also, please don't forget that Colin Brooker will be talking about the slaves of Gov. Moultrie on Tuesday, March 30th in the Paul Siegmund Room, 311 Scott Street at 5:30pm. We can comfortably seat 60 people. The Paul Siegmund Room will open at 5:00pm.
