There are five structures commonly called lighthouses in Beaufort County today though some are actually range lights and one is not truly a lighthouse at all.
Start your National Lighthouse Day celebration with us. This local history program will focus on the fascinating history of the Hunting Island Lighthouse (1859; intentionally destroyed in 1861; rebuilt 1875; moved to its current location, 1888).
Come learn about the structure and the people who kept the light on in the darkness through all weathers from authors Theodore Panayotoff and Linda Miller of the Friends of Hunting Island.
Please note: This local history program will be held at the Hilton Head Branch Library, 11 Beach City Road. First come; first seated. Doors will open for seating at 12:30 PM.
